Newport’s popular Tamarind Indian Restaurant scooped another prestigious award from the Bangladesh Caterers Association. It attended the 16th annual awards ceremony in October, a glamorous event at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Hotel.

Tamarind was named Restaurant of the Year for South East Region 6, chosen as one of 11 regional winners in the UK.

The Restaurant was shortlisted alongside other highly respected nominees including The Paradise Balti House, Haldi Restaurant and Gandhi Restaurant. It emerged as the overall winner for the region and receiving the coveted award.

It’s a huge achievement, as the restaurant was shortlisted and chosen from hundreds of outstanding entrants across the UK and were judged on food presentation, innovation, hygiene standards and customer care.

The theme for this year’s awards was ‘Celebrating Success and Inspiring Others’. It was hosted by celebrity and catering industry expert, Greg Wallace MBE, along with TV personality and entrepreneur, Tasmin Lucia-Khan.

For the Tamarind Indian Restaurant, the award was said to represent and demonstrate its “hard work, commitment to cooking, truly exceptional food and providing an excellent level of service to the wonderful people of Newport and beyond”.

Mr. M.A. Munim, President of the BCA said: “What a night! Congratulations to all the winners. BCA Awards celebrates the success of local restaurants, who are critical in keeping local communities thriving.”
