Residents at Inglefield Nursing and Residential Home have been able to enjoy some of their favourite pastimes all over again – with the help of Virtual Reality.
The Great Escape’ project run by Evolve Multimedia has been working closely with residents at Inglefield to discover and capture some of their favourite experiences which they may no longer be able to enjoy in the usual way for health reasons.
From walking through woods to riding a steam train, residents have enjoyed all kinds of exhilirating experiences. Memories come flooding back and so do the tears and the laughter. Some films even come with smells to enhance the experience even further.
Bill, 98, who used the VR to simulate riding on a motorbike laughed and said ‘I never imagined I would be able to do this again’. Manager Alison Gray said ‘We are very excited to be able to bring the outside in for our residents and bring old hobbies back in such a realistic way. It has been very empowering for all those in our care.’
